Todd Boehly handed £27m decision as Graham Potter comments on Mason Mount future
Mason Mount contract latest
Graham Potter is hopeful complicated contract talks between Chelsea and Mason Mount will be resolved in the coming weeks as uncertainty over the midfielder’s future at Stamford Bridge continues to grow.
One of the priorities for the Todd Boehly/Clearlake Capital consortium after their takeover last year was to tie Mount – Chelsea’s two-time Player of the Year – to a new long-term deal.
Yet negotiations have proved difficult and football.london understands a key stumbling block has been the length of the contract offered.
£27m Zakaria decision
Chelsea have set their sights on acquiring a new midfielder in the summer transfer window as one of the final pieces to complete Todd Boehly’s rebuild. Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham are two of their top targets, but a number of European sides are in the race for both players which will likely make Chelsea’s hopes of signing either more difficult.
However, Chelsea do hold an advantage in a different transfer race which could end up saving Boehly millions.
Mac Allister chance
Chelsea are desperately after a new central midfielder despite acquiring the services of Enzo Fernandez on deadline day of the January transfer window. The Blues tried to sign Moises Caicedo but saw their offers rebuffed with Arsenal also being dealt the same fate with their two bids.
Jude Bellingham appears to be their main transfer target for the end of the season, however a fresh claim has been made regarding the future of Caicedo’s team-mate which could present a wonderful opportunity to give Fernandez his perfect midfield partner.
