‘No time left!’ – Thiago Silva sends warning to new Chelsea signings

Thiago Silva has told his new teammates that they must hit the ground running if Chelsea are to finish the season strong. Chelsea broke various transfer records in January as they recruited eight new players in an attempt to get back to winning ways after a hugely disappointing first-half of the season.
Many of these new signings, including Benoit Badiashile, Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk played together for the first time last Friday as they faced local rivals Fulham, but were held to a 0-0 draw. With the Blues currently ninth in the table, 10 points off the top four, there is a lot of work to do and a lot of pressure on Graham Potter to turn things around quickly.
One player the manager won’t have to worry about is Silva who has remained a class act at Stamford Bridge despite the team’s troubles and continues to perform at the highest level despite his age. Many have criticised Chelsea’s transfer policy and even the 38-year-old admitted to the club’s official website:
‘It’s the first time I’ve seen something like this in my whole career. ‘This shows about the ambition of the club, how much the club wants to win. We had a lot of injury problems this year. A lot of new players arrived and that takes time to prepare and get used to. ‘We know we’re not having the best season, but I really believe that the positive thing is if we don’t start well, we can finish well.
‘So, that’s what we need to learn as a lesson, try to get settled in as soon as possible, because there’s no time left, because the Champions League will start again soon. ‘We need everyone to be ready, at the same page, we won’t be at 100 per cent, but the knowledge of each other has to be important at this moment to build chemistry.’
His comments come amid much speculation around the centre-back’s future, with reports suggesting that the former Brazil international is close to agreeing a new one-year contract extension. Last week, Silva said of contract negotiations:
