Graham Potter believes Chelsea supporters will “really like” the way new signing Mykhailo Mudryk plays. The 22-year-old attacker was confirmed as a new Blues player during their 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
Chelsea won the race to sign the Ukraine international , who penned an astonishing eight- and-a-half year contract at Stamford Bridge. Potter , when speaking after Chelsea’s first win of 2023, has now opened up on the move and the length of the deal.
“You’re never surprised in the transfer window,” Potter told reporters. “Things happen when you don’t expect them to happen. He’s a player with a big future, one vs one he’s very direct, he attacks the back-line. I think our supporters will really like him.”
When pressed on the length of his contract, Potter added:
“I’m the head coach, so thankfully, I have enough to worry about, I’ll leave contract lengths to the club. I’m looking forward to working with him. If I’m here for the remainder of his contract, then we’ll all be happy!”
Mudryk was in a box at Stamford Bridge where he saw his new side scrape to a narrow win over Crystal Palace. He was unveiled to the Chelsea supporters at half-time in the game to a great reception. After signing, the Ukrainian told Chelsea’s in-house media about his excitement about his move to west London.
Mudryk spoke about the Chelsea project and how that was a big factor in his decision-making.
“I’m so happy to sign for Chelsea,” he said . “This is a huge club, in a fantastic league and it is a very attractive project for me at this stage of my career. “I’m excited to meet my new teammates and I’m looking forward to working and learning under Graham Potter and his staff.”
