Reports have claimed that Todd Boehly could sack Graham Potter as Chelsea manager if the Blues lose the London derby against Fulham tomorrow. According to The Sun, while there had been no real fears about his future, another poor result in the Premier League tomorrow night could bring his reign to an end already.
The drop off in form in recent games has been very noticeable, with the Blues winning just one game since the World Cup break. This form, as well as a number of consecutive league games without a win domestically before Christmas, is quite the fall from where the club were after his first few games in charge.
Potter’s reign began with a nine-game unbeaten run, which notably turned their fortunes around in the Champions League after the loss to begin the campaign under Thomas Tuchel. However, injuries have played a massive part in the struggles at Stamford Bridge.
Potter could be sacked
Wing-backs Reece James and Ben Chilwell have been absent for the entire poor run of form, with both of them offering a great deal of attacking impotence from the wide defensive roles. As well as that, Wesley Fofana has hardly been available after his big money move, while Potter hasn’t even had the opportunity to utilise N’golo Kante yet.
Nevertheless, The Sun reports that his future is in serious jeopardy if the Blues lose again tomorrow night. A win for Chelsea against their close rivals would see them climb above them in the league, as well as fellow West London side Brentford.
If Potter was replaced at Stamford Bridge, all signs have pointed to Mauricio Pochettino as his successor, with reports even claiming that he is willing to take the role. After being considered for the job when Thomas Tuchel was sacked, Boehly eventually elected for the then-Brighton manager after being a reported massive fan of his from when he arrived in England.
