Jamal Musiala and John Terry react after Chelsea player’s display against Manchester City yesterday

Jamal Musiala and John Terry have congratulated and praised Chelsea youngster Bashir Humphreys for his performance against Manchester City in the FA Cup yesterday. The academy star made his first team debut as part of a young defence who fell to a 4-0 defeat at the Etihad.

The result saw the Blues exit the competition at the third round stage for the first time in 25 years, a damning indictment of just how bad this season has been so far. Carney Chukwuemeka is one of those youngsters that will be pushing for more appearances going forwards, following his impressive display off the bench in the league last Thursday. Terry and Musiala praise Humphreys He was not handed the start for the FA Cup tie yesterday though, although Potter did look to a couple of teenagers to give them a chance against elite opposition.

Lewis Hall faced the champions for the third time this season already, with him particularly impressing in his debut in the League Cup earlier in the season. He was chosen alongside Humphreys in the defence, who battled hard in the face of a City attack which were in fine form yesterday.

Despite the dismal result, the 19-year-old took to Instagram to claim he was proud to make his debut for the club. Musiala and Terry took to the comments to lead the support. With the poor performances of some Chelsea defenders this season, opportunities may continue to arise for Humphreys to feature this season, especially with the pile-up of fixtures to come.

However, the Blues being out of both domestic cups would mean any appearance would hold the pressure of being in the Premier League or Champions League.
