It’s been a few days now since England crashed out of another major tournament when expectations started to grow they might actually win it.
They had the better of France and should have won the game and gone through to the semi- finals, but a missed Harry Kane penalty had the players, coaches, and whole country feeling the usual frustrations of going out of a tournament at a key moment.
Questions have been asked over the future of Gareth Southgate, and even though it looks like the FA want him to stay on, Southgate himself appears to be considering stepping down. For me, it’s the right time now, and we need fresh blood to lead a quality group of players to achieve what we all know they should be achieving right now.
And there is no better man to do this than former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, in my view. The Telegraph reports that The FA WILL consider him if Southgate steps down, with Tuchel open to it.
FA will consider foreign candidates to replace Gareth Southgate if the England manager stands down with Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel open to the prospect of succeeding ✍️ @Matt_Law_DT , @SamWallaceTel & @Tom_Morgs #TelegraphFootball — Telegraph Football (@TeleFootball) December 12, 2022
