Fulham complete signing of former Chelsea and Arsenal star Willian

Former Chelsea and Arsenal forward Willian has officially signed for Fulham on a one-year deal. The 34-year-old became a free agent this summer after terminating his contract at Brazil side Corinthians early after receiving death threats from some of the club’s supporters.

‘I’m happy to be here, I’m happy to be back in the Premier League,’ Willian told FFCtv. ‘Fulham is a special club, a club that wants to improve, that wants to fight for something bigger, so I’m here to help, and I can’t wait to get started. ‘Marco Silva is a very good manager and good guy also. It is a great opportunity for me to come back to the Premier League and show that I can still play at a high level.’

Willian first arrived in England in 2013 and achieved great success at Stamford Bridge across a seven- year period, scoring 63 goals and making 62 assists for Chelsea. His trophy cabinet includes two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Europa League, as well as the 2019 Copa America with Brazil.

Following that, the forward moved across London to the Emirates but would last just one season at Arsenal after a series of underwhelming performances for the Gunners. It has been a busy transfer deadline day for Fulham, who have also signed PSG left-back Layvin Kurzawa on loan. The 29-year-old said:

‘I feel very, very happy to be here. It’s a family here, everyone is very cool. ‘I’ve watched every Fulham game this season, and I can’t wait to play with this team.’

The Cottagers are aiming to avoid a third consecutive relegation from the Premier League this season and have started the new campaign in great form, losing just one of their opening five games, beating Brighton and Brentford and securing an impressive 2-2 draw against Liverpool in the process.
