Antonio Conte to use clever Diego Costa trick from Chelsea at Tottenham to grant Harry Kane wish

Joe Cole has tipped Antonio Conte to use Harry Kane as a catalyst for silverware at Tottenham Hotspur — just as the Italian did at Chelsea with Diego Costa. The England international has enjoyed working under the Italian, finding the net 21 times in 38 appearances. But, despite Kane’s fruitful record in front of goal, Conte is yet to lift a trophy at White Hart Lane.

And, in a mission to transform the north Londoners’ misfortune on both the domestic and European stage, the Spurs boss must reignite the flame which set Stamford Bridge alight four-years ago. Speaking to BT Sport ahead of Tottenham’s bout with Wolves, Cole said that Conte has what it takes to reuse the magic he used on Costa on Kane, with the captain undoubtedly eager to lift his first trophy.

“He will want to win something and he does have the squad now,” the former Chelsea midfielder said, speaking of the next step in Kane’s career. “This is my first game at White Hart Lane and I can feel that there’s a different atmosphere, they’re set up and geared up to win and we know what Antonio Conte can do because he done it at Chelsea. He’s making players better, [Ryan] Sessegnon, [Ben] Davies, [Eric] Dier — it’s the sign of a good coach. I think it’s very positive for Tottenham.”

Costa featured 42 times for Conte at Chelsea, directly contributing towards 30 goals. The Spaniard played a major role is the Blues’ 2016/17 Premier League triumph. While the striker was pivotal to the west Londoners’ success on the pitch, he was as successful off the pitch. Costa was an orchestrator of travelling Chelsea supporters, lifting fans from seats and igniting a fierce atmosphere.

Cole believes that Kane could play a similar role at Spurs as Conte closes in on something special at Tottenham. Despite it being early days, Spurs have looked spritely so far this term and could be a force to be reckoned with.
